When we finished cleaning windows today, Mom and I continued to work outdoors, sweeping and gathering sand in a descending driveway beside the house. Three hours after we started the cleaning projects, she and I were seated on living room wingback chairs. We sipped hot herbal tea that Mom had made and had poured into thick mugs with handles, while I shared stories from a televised version of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour that I recently watched. The show features stand-up comedians Jeff Foxworthy, Bill Engvall, Ron White, and Daniel Whitney. At some point, Daniel Whitney was nicknamed Larry the Cable Guy.
The four seasoned funny men toured the United States for six years, starting in Omaha, Nebraska in 2000 and ending in Washington, D.C. in 2006. Talking with Mom about the Blue Collar Comedy Tour was contenting. Relating stories shared during the show surely relieved physical discomfort Mom and I were experiencing after cleaning for several hours.
Shortly after the tour arrived in Washington, D.C., Mr. Foxworthy, Mr. Engvall, Mr. White and Mr. Whitney decided to tour the Lincoln Monument. While Daniel Whitney aka Larry the Cable Guy was looking at the statue of President Lincoln, he said, “Wow, I had no idea he (Lincoln) was that big.” Jeff Foxworthy looked at Larry and said, “You didn’t think he was that big? He’s not even standing up.”
During one performance on the tour, comedian Ron White, said, “British DeBeers diamond Company recently came out with some new advertising. The new slogan of the company is—Diamonds are forever.” While smoking a lit cigar and alternately sipping a beverage, Mr. White then nonchalantly said, “DeBeers slogan used to be—Diamonds are a girl’s best friend.” Ron suddenly remarked, “Why doesn’t DeBeers Company say it the way it really is—Diamonds, yeah, that will shut her up, for a minute.”
