Today, I spotted former fellow Cohasset High School graduate Hollyn Richardson. She was examining produce inside Stop & Shop in Cohasset. We exchanged greetings. Hollyn informed me that Noelle Winters, another CHS graduate who befriended Hollyn and me in high school, will be coming to see her soon in Cohasset.
Having resided in Florida for many years, Noelle has been engaged in a career within the biology field. She is also the mother of two boys, who are by now, probably both adults, or near being adults. When we were seniors at Cohasset High School, Hollyn, Noelle, Brielle Morgan, Vicky Remick, Beverly Jennings and I regularly ate lunch together on school days. Some or all of us had previously dated; as seniors, none of us was dating, as far as I know. We were self-baptized as DWs or “Dateless Wonders” and we mutually acknowledged one another as such.
We created nicknames such as Dufus, Gazooba, Wart, Fang, and Raut. Who was Fang? I can’t remember. When seeing Hollyn this morning, I remarked, “I can’t believe we wrote these nicknames in Tessahoc under our family names. Tessahoc is the name of the Cohasset High School yearbook. The name Tessahoc is Cohasset spelled backwards.
“No wonder we barely had social lives. What boy in high school would want to see or date a girl who has been publicly self-identified as Dufus, Wart, Fang, Raut or Gazooba? What were we thinking?” I said aloud, as Hollyn and I, standing beside the juicy fruit section of the grocery store, gushed boisterous laughter, which was immediately circulated among nearby grocery store shoppers.
