LIFE FLASHES: A MEMOIR
CHAPTER ONE-AWAKENING
January 1, 2007
Donning a white turtleneck jersey, black pants, and light orange, waist-length spring jacket, I stepped outside an apartment I am sharing in Weymouth, Massachusetts. Winter morning darkness surrounded me. The time was 5:00 a.m. Having experienced many years of job dissatisfaction, having drifted from job to job, and having been socially isolated and financially unstable for many years, I was engulfed with emotion. Darkness resembling a level of internal dread I have undergone few times in life overcame me. I began praying.
Within seconds, a supernatural being, emanating unimaginable love and hope, emerging through suddenly and naturally appearing spiritually intense Bright White Light, surrounded me. I heard a non-human voice that I recognized as the voice of God say, “Merrie, you were forgiven for mentioned wrongdoings many years ago; you are forgiven for all of the wrongdoing you have committed.” Experiencing profound joy, humility, and gratitude, as tears were falling from my eyes, I said, “Thank you, Lord,” adding, “God, I don’t know how to begin again. I do not know Step One.”
“Come, I will show you how to live again,” God said. Profound, humbling, and calming contentment entered me. Renewed hope awakened me. Today, I stopped ingesting antidepressant medication which had been prescribed for me for two years. Serenity has resurged within me; I am confident that genuinely and slowly re-establishing a trusting, respectful, and cooperative relationship with God, no matter how weak belief in God is, is the primary reason that healings or miracles happen.
